Dr. Owen Kingstedt is joining the department from a post-doctoral scholar position in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. He received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Minors in Mathematics and Materials Science from Michigan Technological University. Owen’s Masters of Science and PhD were completed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
Owen’s research lab will focus on quantifying high strain rate material behavior through experimental investigations of impact of blast. Specifically, he will identify underlying mechanisms that drive material deformation and failure by performing detailed pre- and post-deformation characterization studies. Additional work will be conducted on the improvement of existing experimental techniques and the development of novel approaches to unlock the complexities of material behavior at multiple length and time scales in advanced and emerging material systems.
Owen will begin his new position at the University of Utah on July 1, 2016.
